Here are a few more pictures after i edited them from the original copy, but before i created the final representation image, i like the effects they created, i am thinging about changing the colours used though to maybe go with front covers colours more.

Magazine Cover Maybe Finished

Here is the first installment of my music magazine, it has the representation image which was inspired by "Blur's" album art, however i changed it to have the human faces above that were un-edited.

There is a banner along the top which is adverising a free Oasis poster and the price both in the same colours. Under the banner is a picture of the poster.

The mast head is in big lettering, hard to miss, it also stands out against its black contrast which gives a contrast in colours.

Along the left there are a short list of things you can expect to find inside the magazine, with the "Love Music Hate Racism" badge. With has kept with the black/yellow style along the bottom of the magazine cover.

The magazine costs £2, i did this so it was fairly priced as the magazine is aimed at a younger audience and anything over £2 might be abit expensive for a magazine, because it is priced i included a barcode.

Contents page Analysis

Here is the contents page to a "NME" magazine, It has a big image in the middle with the title of what its about at the bottom, followed by the page number, the contents follow the colour of the NME logo red ,white and black,

Along the keft hand side the contents of the magazine are all listed in red, followed by the page number of were you can find them

Inside there is also the date of the magazine, underneath that there is a list of live gigs,reviews,news and more features, there is also a chance to subscribe to the magazine, with a phone number and a email adress.

Another Double Page Spread

Here is another spread we can compare this to the "jamelia" spread as it has highlighted Questions in the Q&A article, it is also a Q&A artcile unlike the Madonna one, we only have a smaller picture on this one of 2 band members from the band "the hours". We have another small image at the top left of the title of the band that contrats against its background so we can clearly see it.

Quotes are written in red font so we notice those too and we know that they will be inside the article, the author has probably taken these quotes as they are good pieces of information/ teasers for readers to see which will make them want to buy the magazine to read on.

Comparing Double Paged Spreads

Here are 2 double page spreads they have similar conventions however have different styles and representations.

This jamelia article uses black background and white text, the article also seems to be a Q&A style artcile and the questions are in red so its easy to see what is being asked and said.

We have a big image of jamelia curled up in a ball, she could be seen to be looking vulnerable, which would go with the title of her being "exposed"

First Double Page Spread Lily Allen

Here is a double page spread of Lily Allen, one half of the spread is taken up by a massive picture of Lily Allen that also slightly reaches over onto the next page too. As the title on the page is a quote from somewhere in the article "People think im an attention seeker but im just being honest" this title is quite funky lettering and Lily Allen could be considered as a cool funky person.

She seems to be leaning intowards the reader with her hands on her hips, this could be seen as an intimidating pose with no smile or real facial expression,

The mackground for this article is white which makes Lilly Allen stand out against it in her red top red also can represent romance or danger maybe even agression which also reflects the stance she is stood in.

Bazaar

Here is another magazine but dedicated to fashion and perfumes, it follows certain conventions just like Q and Mojo and NME, we see the represented image of a woman smelling her wrist, there is a small joke.."Enter the Era of Elegance" and we see her with her hand in the air smelling her wrist which isnt very elegant.

There is a white background in contrast to the black title "Bazaar" and then she is wearing black and has black hair which keeps the colour scheme going. She also has red lip stick on which could be qite seductive towards a male audience buying the perfume for women.

Comparing other magazines to Music Ones.

Here is a "Empire" film magazine, we can see on the front colour, there are bright colours which could be used to catch viewers eyes, the colours also correspond with the represented image on the front which is "the joker", he wears greens and pinks and is ruthless and quite crazy, the colours used match what colours he wears and also we see a spray painted pink along the back which is something what joker would do.

However other things we can see are the Mast head that reads "Empire" in big read much like Q's and the main image on the front, also we have a list of sub headings and things we can expect to find withtin the magazine, along with Jokers name on the left of the magazine just to make sure viewers know who it is.

Comparing Q and Mojo

Much like "Mojo music magazine", "Q" follows certain conventions

We see the name of the magazine in the top corner, we also see the representation for the front cover which is Madonna, she is shown as a strong sofisticated woman, powerful and can make it on her own.

We also have the big red masthead/title which reads Madonna which is just so we know who the woman on the frnt of the cover is, we also know what we can expect to find inside when we read it.

We also have a series of sub headings down the side followed by the words ....All interview, so we know that the people listed on the side of the magazine will be inside and interviewed.

At the bottom it tells us what is also inside and in this one they are advertising Women in Music 70-page special so i would say that this weeks Q is aimed more at the female audience do to "Madonna" on the front cover and the WOMAN IN MUSIC magazine.

All the colours used seem to compliment each other, we have blacks and whites followed by a strong red to stick out on top of the other images and the rest of the cover.

Nusic Magazines Conventions

Here is a popular music magazine, Mojo, there are many conventions to this magazine muc like others i have analyised,

We have the main title "LED ZEPPELIN" and what we know is the band stood behind the heading. We also have the title at the top which is "Mojo" which we now know is the music magazine.

The colours dont really stand out from other magazines, with faint pinks and blues, however the title is sufficiently big enough to stand out.

The magazine would be aimed at teens and music lovers, hense its a music magazine so sports fanatics wouldnt be interested in it.

The magazine also has adverts and competitions on the cover, this would be a useful way to make money.

It also has sub headings to tell us what else we expect to find within it.

What LIIAR stands for

Language - Language can be used in many ways font, images, colour, graphics and Masthead, we could see an image of a famous band or singer as the main image, and the smaller sub headings would be aimed towards the image in some way

Ideology - Ideology is what the magazine is about, for instance "Mojo" is a music magazine and we know this with the band R.E.M on the front cover with the caption "20 years 11 Albums"

Institution - Institutoin would in this example be a music magazine the music magazine would be aimed at other music lovers

Audience - The audience would be the target audience of the magazine.

Representation - The main image would represent the style of the magazine, maybe a band would represet a music magazine, whilst plant pots might represent a garden magazine.

We were given the brief to create a front cover and contents mock up, first we made a blog Www.jaredtheperson.blogspot.com, we had to research other magazine covers, I looked at headers, mast heads imagery, colour and font. Researching a few I looked at what fitted best, I also looked at contents pages in various magazines.
When it came to creating the magazine I looked back on all the other magazines, and used what fitted my well within the magazines, I looked carefully at colour and easy accessibility when it came to reading the cover, this involved the font not blending into the background, luckily when it came to the making of the magazine I had bright yellow backgrounds which helped me to emphasise the text. I used Microsoft publisher to help me make the image then edited it using Photoshop, for my front cover I took a picture of 2 separate things, the building by itself and then a picture of me holding the book, then using Photoshop I merged the two together. I used Microsoft Arial as the text and used a red colour to match with the background. If I had more time I would’ve explored a wider range of text to use as my font, which might’ve helped to boost the appeal of my magazine.
I then looked at all the mock-ups that I had done previously to see how I was going to lay out the magazine, again I used my research to help decide what worked and what didn’t. I pasted the picture of my merged onto a picture of the college and then write the heading across it, I then decided that I would price my magazine and add a issue number. I priced the magazine at 99p and put a barcode on the bottom of the image.
If I had had more time I would’ve changed the font I used as it looks as though it was quickly made or rushed. However I liked the images used as they relate to the headlines of the cover of my magazine.
For the contents page my idea was to have all the stories seem to look like they were written on post-it notes, as if they were in a school just writing down small notes. I used an image of me walking towards the ash building with the word ASH written down the side of the building which I think looks good in the photo.
When I analysed the magazines I looked at the conventions of it, the colour and pictures are some conventions, also looked at who I thought would be the target audiences of this magazine. As my magazine would be aimed at students at college and teachers, so the magazine contains general college information and not just dedicated to one specific college increasing the market in it.
The pictures are taken at wyke college, but my idea was the magazine to be sold throughout all colleges, but I was limited to only collecting pictures from college this made it difficult to do.

Here are 2 examples of Medium-Close up shots, the camera is well in focus showing us the two people clearly, when i make my magazine i want my images to be clear and i must use medium close up shots in my task.

Rarely do we see a Magazine cover without any pictures, i have to decide what imae to use for my Cover, I will take a range of pictures of the college and students in it i was thinking of using a image of the "Wyke College" in the background and a few students laughing,smiling and having fun to emphasise how good this college is. The cover will consist of the college then the title over the building with the students beneath it, i have yet to decide if i will take seperate pictures of the students then the college or get them both into one shot. I think i will take seperate pictures and photoshop the two together

Colours

A color scheme is the choice of colors used in design in media. For example, the use of a white background with black text is an example of a basic and commonly default color scheme in web design.
Color schemes are used to create style and appeal. Colors that create an happy or warm feeling when used together will commonly accompany each other in color schemes. A basic color scheme will use two colors that look appealing together. More advanced color schemes involve several colors in combination, usually based around a single color; for example, text with such colors as red, yellow, orange and light blue arranged together on a black background in a magazine article.

Comparing to "Wired" Magazine

This is an american magazine, This magazine has used the colour red, around the cover and the title which could have been used to attract readers to its title. However i dont think hat the right colours were used as sub headings; for instance at the top it has the heading "nuclear rogues &how to control them " but they have used a light blue against a whiteback ground making it harder to read, whilst on the "Wired" background the darker colours contrasted with the background making it easier to read.

Analysing Headlines

Here is a PC magazine, i picked this magazine because of thetitle, the colours go well with the background with different lettering to other normal magazines. With cutouts for some letters and boxes around other letters.
